BURNS

Burns are tissue damage caused by exposure to heat, sun, electricity or various chemicals. Depending on their depth and size, burns affect the patient’s life. Burns can result in a wide range of burns, from burns that can be treated at home with daily dressings to burns that can result in death. The most important component of a burn is the depth of the burn. Burns :

1st degree burn: This type of minor burn affects only the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). It can cause redness and pain.

2nd degree burn: This type of burn affects both the epidermis and the second layer of skin (dermis). It can cause swelling, red, white or blotchy skin. Blisters may develop and the pain can be severe. Deep second-degree burns can cause scarring.

3rd degree burn: As is known, there is a layer of fat under the skin. In this type of burn, the effect of the burn goes beyond the skin and reaches this fat layer. The skin takes on a leathery appearance. Third-degree burns can destroy nerves and cause numbness or numbness in the area. It requires urgent medical attention.

4th degree burns: These are burns that penetrate the bones and joints. Requires urgent medical attention

The extent of the burn is also important. Intravenous fluid therapy should be started for burns exceeding 10%. Requires hospitalization.

HOW TO INTERVENE URGENTLY IN BURNS

In case of hot water burns, tea, coffee, milk, the patient should immediately hold the water under tap water, it is sufficient if the water is slightly cold. Do not apply ice, aleovera or egg white to the burned area. Since the skin is already damaged by the burn, things that are normally beneficial to the skin can also be damaged. After holding it under water, if you have burn cream at home, you can apply it, otherwise cover it with a wet cloth and go to the nearest health institution. If the burn is an acid burn, immediately remove clothing that has come into contact with the acid and rinse under water for at least 10 minutes. If the burn is a chemical burn, that is, if it is in the form of powder, if it has touched the skin and irritated the skin, never wash it with water, water can make the chemical more active and burn the skin more. If the patient was burned in an enclosed environment, their lungs may also have been burned. In such a case, the patient must be taken to hospital immediately. The patient may say that a minute ago he or she was fine, talking freely and not in pain, but the patient’s condition can deteriorate in an instant.
