Lip Lift (Liplift)

Lip aesthetics is not only about fullness and prominence. The filtral columns, which are two in the middle of the lip, the outward appearance of the lip, its size, its puffiness and the lip-nose distance, which has been trending recently. In patients with long upper lip length, the lip will sag downwards and the red mucous membrane of the lip will be less visible. It’s as if he has no upper lip. At the same time, this condition shows the age of the lips more. The lip is turned inwards. When this type of lips are tried to be inflated with fillers, the lip will fall even further downwards. Not only will the lip get heavier, but the underlying problem will get bigger.

The length from the skin mucosa border of the lip called vermilion, i.e. the white skin red skin area, to the base of the nose gives the length of the lip. Normally it’s 12-15 mm. The small amount of teeth visible when you smile is the parameter that determines the actual length of the lip. This length increases with age. This distance is longer in men and shorter in women. The operation is generally suitable for patients with a lip distance of 20 mm and longer. In petite faces, this surgery can be performed even when this distance is less.

The surgery is the process of removing gull wing-like tissue from the base of the nose and sewing the upper lip to this area. Since the scar will remain at the base of the nose, it is usually difficult to notice. Of course, other patient-related conditions such as the patient’s skin quality, age and smoking change the noticeability of this mark. The operation time is 1 hour. In general, I find it appropriate to do it locally without anesthesia. Depending on the patient’s request, I usually do it by putting the patient to sleep. Postoperative pain is minimal. There will be swelling for three to four days and it does not affect the normal course of life much. For 72 hours, I recommend the patient to avoid movements that will stretch the lip.

The most common complication of this surgery is lip asymmetry. Other complications may include undesirable results such as inadequate tissue removal or excessive tissue removal, failure to obtain the desired result on the lip, and obvious scarring. The most unpopular result here is the excessive lifting of the lip due to excess tissue removal. This process is very difficult to reverse. Secondary procedures should be performed after waiting at least 6 months. At first, the stitches pull the wings of the nose down and the wings of the nose may look enlarged, but this is a temporary condition.
